Biography

System Olympia, born Francesca Macri, is an Italian-born, London-based producer, songwriter, and vocalist renowned for her distinctive fusion of Italo disco, funk, and synth-pop. Her music is characterized by lush pads, dreamy synths, gritty drums, and captivating melodies, drawing inspiration from erotic literature, late-night drives, and dance floor romance.

Francesca’s musical journey began in Southern Italy, where she was born and raised. She spent her teenage years DJing in clubs across Rome before moving to the United States to pursue her music career. In Los Angeles, she released three solo records under Alpha Pup Records. Subsequently, she relocated to London, where she continued to develop her unique sound.

In 2017, System Olympia released her debut solo EP, “Dusk & Dreamland,” which received critical acclaim and led to her debut show on NTS Radio. Her track “Close to My Nebula” was featured on DJ Harvey’s compilation “The Sound of Mercury Rising Vol II.”

She has since released several notable projects, including the “Delta of Venus” LP, an homage to the 1977 anthology of erotic short stories, and her album “Always on Time,” which was listed on Pitchfork’s “29 Records You May Have Missed.”

System Olympia also hosts a monthly residency on NTS Radio, where she shares a mix of boogie, R&B, synth-pop, and her own unreleased music. She founded her own record label, Okay Nature Records, through which she releases most of her music.

Her tracks have been featured on Mount Kimbie’s DJ Kicks, Pete Tong’s Essential New Tunes, and DJ Harvey’s compilations. In 2024, she released the EP “Sanctified,” collaborating with Working Men’s Club on the title track.

System Olympia continues to captivate audiences with her evocative soundscapes and remains a significant figure in the contemporary music scene.
